The Chinese horoscope is based on the 12 animals above, each having its own year in the cycle.
The Chinese New Year or the Lunar New Year is associated with several myths and customs. The festival was traditionally a time to honour deities as well as ancestors. Customs and traditions concerning this celebration vary widely. The eve of the New Year is usually the annual reunion dinner for Chinese families. It is an occasion full of food and laughter surrounded by loved ones. It is also traditional for every family to thoroughly clean their house, in order to sweep away any ill-fortune and to make way for incoming good luck. Another tradition is for married couples to give money in red envelopes to children. Often, people will wish each other good fortune, happiness, wealth, and longevity. It is important that during this celebration, everyone is dress in brightly coloured clothes to bring on the good luck. Following on closely is Valentine's Day on the 14th. It's the day when people show their affection for another person or people by sending cards, flowers or chocolates with messages of love.
The popular belief about St Valentine is that he was a priest from Rome in the third century AD. Emperor Claudius II had banned marriage because he thought married men were bad soldiers. Valentine felt this was unfair, so he broke the rules and arranged marriages in secret. When Claudius found out, Valentine was thrown in jail and sentenced to death. There, he fell in love with the jailer's daughter and when he was taken to be killed on 14th February, he sent her a love letter signed "from your Valentine".
This is the day to make your move if you secretly admire someone and you want him/her to know. Also a day to show your appreciation and love to partners, boyfriends, girlfriends (you really should), husbands, wives ( a definite must!) and even good friends. Especially in this pandemic, let's just show love to all!
